The Gates Foundation and OpenAI are partnering to help African countries use AI to improve their health systems.

The Gates Foundation and OpenAI launched Horizon1000, a $50 million partnership to deploy AI solutions in African healthcare systems. Starting with Rwanda, the initiative aims to reach 1,000 primary health clinics across multiple countries by 2028, addressing the shortage of approximately six million healthcare professionals in sub-Saharan Africa. The partnership will work with African leaders to determine optimal AI implementation strategies for expanding access to quality healthcare in regions with limited infrastructure and workforce.
