Jeff Geerling criticizes Bambu Lab for threatening legal action against the developer of OrcaSlicer-bambulab, a fork that allows printing without routing through Bambu's cloud. The fork used verbatim AGPL-licensed code from Bambu Studio itself, yet Bambu accused the developer of impersonation and security risks. Geerling argues this violates the open source social contract, noting the irony that Bambu's own fork once caused telemetry to hit Prusa's servers without similar retaliation. He recommends skipping Bambu printers altogether and notes Louis Rossmann pledged $10,000 to help the developer fight the legal threats.
