Backblaze quietly stopped backing up cloud-synced folders (OneDrive, Dropbox, Google Drive) and .git directories without notifying users. The change was buried in release notes under 'Improvements' and is not listed on their exclusions page. The author, a 10-year Backblaze customer, discovered their 383GB OneDrive folder was no longer being backed up. The post argues that sync services are not a substitute for backup due to limited retention periods, and that silently narrowing what gets backed up breaks the core promise of the service.
