Event Streaming is Topping Out
The event streaming market is experiencing saturation and consolidation. Confluent, the industry leader, shows declining growth rates (19.4% total revenue growth) despite $1.1B ARR. Kafka has become commoditized with numerous cloud providers offering services, driving prices down 6.5x since 2020. New diskless architectures promise 10x+ cost reductions by eliminating networking overhead. Stream processing monetization has failed, with Flink generating only $14M ARR (1.25% of Confluent's revenue) after years of investment. Most streaming startups remain small, with Redpanda at ~$20M revenue after 6 years. Industry consolidation is predicted, with acquisitions and pivots likely as companies struggle to justify growth in an oversaturated, relatively small market.
