AWS has launched Agent Registry, a new managed service within its Amazon Bedrock AgentCore portfolio, aimed at helping enterprises catalog, manage, and govern growing fleets of AI agents. The service provides a unified directory capturing agent metadata like capabilities, identities, and integrations, and supports agents built with different models and frameworks. Analysts note it addresses the emerging problem of 'agent sprawl' — where AI agents proliferate faster than traditional apps, creating ambiguous ownership and governance gaps. The registry is accessible via console, APIs, SDKs, and as an MCP server, and supports both manual registration and automated ingestion via MCP or Agent2Agent endpoints. However, analysts caution that its tight AWS integration may limit cross-cloud or federated discovery, potentially creating 'registry sprawl' across hyperscalers. The service is currently in preview across five AWS regions, with external registry support planned.
