AWS HealthImaging now supports JPEG XL lossy compressed medical images in DICOM format. The service stores JPEG XL data without transcoding, preserving image fidelity while reducing storage costs. Images can be retrieved in JPEG XL format without transcoding latency. This feature is particularly useful for digital pathology whole slide imaging systems and is available in US East, US West, Asia Pacific Sydney, and Europe Ireland regions.
