AWS has announced the general availability of the Amazon EKS Hybrid Nodes gateway, a new feature that simplifies hybrid Kubernetes networking. It automatically manages pod-to-pod traffic between AWS VPC and on-premises environments, eliminating the need for complex network changes like BGP routing configuration or IP address alignment. The gateway also handles control plane to webhook connectivity and enables AWS services like Application Load Balancers and Amazon Managed Service for Prometheus to communicate with remote pods on hybrid nodes. Key use cases include cross-environment pod networking during cloud migrations, webhook operations for admission controllers, and AWS service integrations across hybrid environments. The feature is open source and available on GitHub.
