<p>AWS has launched Agent Registry, a new service within its AgentCore platform, now available in preview across five AWS regions.</p>
<p>The basic idea is straightforward: as organizations deploy more AI agents, tools, and skills across different teams, finding and reusing what already exists gets messy. Agent Registry is a governed catalog meant to solve that. Teams can register agents, MCP servers, tools, and custom resources, then make them discoverable to others inside the organization.</p>
<h2>How registration works</h2>
<p>You can register resources manually through the AWS console, CLI, or SDK. There’s also a URL-based discovery option where you point the service at a live MCP or Agent-2-Agent endpoint and it automatically pulls metadata from that endpoint. Admins can require approval before anything becomes discoverable, and every action gets logged in AWS CloudTrail for auditing.</p>
<p>Once registered, resources are searchable via semantic or keyword search. Access is controlled through IAM and OAuth. The registry itself is also accessible as an MCP server, so you can query it directly from an IDE.</p>
<h2>Framework and provider agnostic</h2>
<p>One notable design choice: the registry doesn’t care where your agents actually run. It can index agents on AWS, other clouds, or on-premises. That’s a reasonable call given how fragmented most enterprise AI infrastructure is right now.</p>
<h2>The competitive landscape</h2>
<p>AWS isn’t alone here. Microsoft has Agent 365 with Entra Agent ID, Google Cloud has its own Agent Registry inside Vertex AI Agent Builder, and there’s an open-source option from <a href="http://Solo.io" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow">Solo.io</a> contributed to the CNCF called agentregistry. The category is clearly getting crowded, which probably tells you something about how seriously the major cloud providers are taking agent management as a problem worth owning.</p>
