Helsinki startup Avrea has emerged from stealth with $4.7M in pre-seed funding led by Earlybird, positioning itself as a faster, AI-aware CI/CD platform for engineering teams whose code output is outpacing their build systems. Founded by Aiven co-founder Hannu Valtonen and Nosto co-founder Juha Valvanne, Avrea offers a drop-in alternative to GitHub Actions that runs builds on dedicated high-clock-speed CPUs and adds an AI agent layer to surface slow steps, flaky tests, and outdated tooling. The company claims 2-3x faster pipelines and up to 80% infrastructure cost reduction, with a public benchmark showing 27x speedup over GitHub Actions on the Ghostty terminal project. The core thesis is that AI-generated code multiplies CI/CD load linearly, creating a bottleneck that existing platforms aren't designed to handle. Avrea already holds ISO 27001 and SOC 2 certifications and has paying customers in production.
