Australia's Signals Directorate (ASD) has open-sourced Azul (v9.0.0), a malware analysis platform designed for reverse engineers and incident responders. Built with Python, Golang, and TypeScript, it runs on Kubernetes via Helm, uses Apache Kafka for event queuing, and stores samples in S3-compatible storage. Azul consists of three core components: a malware repository with origin metadata, an analytical engine that converts reverse engineering work into reusable plugins, and a clustering suite powered by OpenSearch for pattern detection across samples. It supports YARA rules, Snort signatures, and the Maco framework, with OpenID Connect for access control. Azul is not a triage tool — samples should be pre-flagged before ingestion.
