ATMOS Space Cargo has closed a €25.7M Series A round to fund three PHOENIX 2 orbital return missions, launch a new defence-focused entity called ATMOS WORKS, and begin development of the next-generation PHOENIX 3 capsule with 1-tonne payload capacity. The German-French startup demonstrated Europe's first private orbital re-entry capsule (PHOENIX 1) in April 2025 using its Inflatable Atmospheric Decelerator (IAD) technology. Recovery operations are planned near the Azores under the first commercial re-entry licence issued by an EU member state. The round positions ATMOS as Europe's only private company with demonstrated re-entry capability, addressing the continent's lack of sovereign orbital return infrastructure.
