Astral has completed the first year of its OSS Fund, donating $70,000 total — exceeding its original $26,000 pledge. This included $21,345 to 32 open source projects across the Python and Rust ecosystems, $10,000 to the Python Software Foundation and Rust Foundation, and a one-time $38,500 donation to Trifecta Tech for zstd decompression work in Rust. For year two, Astral is pledging $44,000 (~$2,700 per developer), split between open source maintainers and language foundations. The fund now moves to annual rather than quarterly commitments, and a detailed list of funded projects and individuals — including Tokio, Serde, Black, Coverage.py, rust-analyzer, and many others — is publicly available.
