This article is just PR damage control.
They are trying to rewrite the narrative, saying their game survived a hate campaign from racists because the protagonists were black, when in actuality their game had negative backlash against it because it was suuuuper culturally insensitive. Their black protagonist was a lazy stereotype that didn’t fit the games context, the trailer was pumping rap and trap beats, and one of their pre-order rewards was a statue that very closely resembled the broken torii gate in Japan. For the unaware, that’s a sensitive cultural symbol that is a reminder of the tragedies of nuclear war which they were giving to pre-orders with an assassin bobble head toy. Their biggest critics were not racists but Japanese people that were offended by their work.
So yeah, standard protocol for Ubisoft. Calling everyone that critiques you racist and desperately clamor for a moral high ground instead of admitting to and apologizing for your mistakes.

“Success” ?! It FLOPPED. People hated it. It had obvious political narrative over storytelling spray painted all over it. Plus this overbudget megaflop got DESTROYED by Expedition 33 which sold literally MILLIONS more copies within a couple of weeks and has universal praise from everyone who has played it(a game made by like 30 people btw).
