AWS Senior Principal Engineer Clare Liguori, a core maintainer of the Model Context Protocol (MCP), discussed Amazon's deep involvement in the MCP ecosystem at the MCP Summit in NYC. Amazon contributes features like Tasks and Elicitations to the MCP spec, runs managed MCP servers, and uses AWS as an experimental playground for draft spec concepts. Liguori is currently working on integrating webhooks, events, and notifications into MCP to support always-on, event-driven agents. Amazon also recently expanded access to its Kiro AI development tool beyond engineers, signaling broader enterprise adoption of MCP-powered tools.
