Arize AI and Google Cloud lay down standardized telemetry mandate to keep enterprise agents in check
Enterprise AI agents lack standardized telemetry, creating observability blind spots as agents call multiple tools, models, and sub-agents in production. Arize AI and Google Cloud are pushing OpenTelemetry and OpenInference as shared standards to enable teams to instrument once and route telemetry anywhere, regardless of framework or platform. The Arize AX platform integrates with Google's Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform to align traces around these standards. Experts warn that adopting OpenTelemetry is only the first step — challenges remain around scale, cross-provider normalization (OpenAI vs. Anthropic telemetry differ), privacy demands, and security audit requirements that ML-focused conventions haven't yet addressed. eBPF is highlighted as a complementary approach for OS-level signal capture without application instrumentation.
