We spend years chasing degrees, certifications, and fancy online courses — all in the name of “education.” But if you look closer, most of it boils down to one thing: securing a job.
We pay to learn, so we can earn later.
But when that paycheck finally comes, it quietly repays all the time, money, and energy we once invested.
Day after day, we give 8–9 hours of our lives back to a system that trained us — not to be free thinkers, but to be reliable workers.
Somewhere along the way, “learning” stopped being about curiosity and started being about compliance.
So here’s the question I keep asking myself:
Are we really learning for ourselves — or just upgrading to fit better inside an endless loop?

We should never stop learning. I learn work related things to increase my value at work. But I have outside subjects that I learn for me to increase my value as a Husband, Father, and Human Being.

Are We Learning to Grow — or Just Learning to Survive? It depends on why you learn something. Many people want to land a job, and learning is a means to this end. Others seek learning as a means to self-improvement, so landing a job is more of a consequence. There is no right or wrong here; it is just a matter of what you want to pursue in life. Some people change jobs because they feel they are not learning new things, not because of money. Others are happy doing the same jobs for years or changing jobs because of a better financial opportunity. People have different priorities.

I think if you’re just learning to survive, then you’re probably not really interested in learning. Furthermore, if that’s the case, you’re probably learning just enough to get by.

This is why finding the right job, where you are paid to think creatively and are given room to build in your own way is so important to giving your career longevity and avoiding burnout.

That’s a good conversation to have.
The right mentality is to never stop being a student.
When you are at work, learn and work accordingly.
When you’re out of it, learn and do things accordingly.
