Archinstall 4.2 has been released with a critical security fix addressing a bug where encryption keyfiles were written as plain text to unencrypted root partitions. This issue, reported in June 2023, affected setups where partitions like /home were encrypted but not the root partition. The fix restricts keyfile generation to configurations where the root partition is also encrypted. Additional changes include defaulting to nvidia-open instead of nvidia-open-dkms for mainline kernels, dropping X.Org packages for Wayland-based desktop profiles, and more granular KDE Plasma configuration options.
