Apple has officially announced the introduction of its advanced M5 chip, now powering the latest versions of the MacBook Pro, iPad Pro, and Vision Pro. Designed with an emphasis on enhancing AI performance, the M5 is built on a 3-nanometer process, representing a substantial upgrade over the M4.
The M5 chip showcases remarkable enhancements, including a significant boost in GPU performance, with a 4x increase in peak GPU compute capabilities for AI workloads compared to the M4. The chip features up to a 10-core CPU, a 10-core GPU with Neural Accelerators, a 16-core Neural Engine, and an impressive 153GB/s unified memory bandwidth.
For the MacBook Pro, only the base 14-inch model currently features this update, offering users a 1.6x improvement in graphics performance and a commendable 24-hour battery life. The new MacBook Pro starts at $1,599.
The iPad Pro benefits from the M5’s capabilities with a 3.5x surge in AI performance and enhanced cellular connectivity. It is available in 11-inch and 13-inch sizes, equipped with the Ultra Retina XDR display, and runs on iPadOS 26, which introduces the Liquid Glass interface and advanced multitasking capabilities. The revamped iPad Pro starts at $999.
Apple’s high-end Vision Pro headset is also equipped with the M5 chip, offering 50% faster AI feature performance and improved display rendering, coupled with an upgraded 120Hz refresh rate for a smoother experience. The Vision Pro is priced at $3,499.
These upgrades reflect Apple’s strategy of deploying groundbreaking technology in its professional-grade devices to maintain a competitive edge against rivals like Qualcomm and Intel. All devices are available for pre-order now, with shipping starting on October 22.
