To nobody's surprise, the MCP protocol is now part of a new foundation under the umbrella of the Linux Foundation.

Anthropic has donated its Model Context Protocol (MCP) to the newly formed Agentic AI Foundation under the Linux Foundation. The foundation launches with MCP, Block's goose AI agent framework, and OpenAI's AGENTS.md format. Major tech companies including Amazon, Google, Microsoft, OpenAI, and Anthropic are platinum members. The move aims to provide a neutral home for foundational agentic AI projects, ensuring MCP remains open and community-driven as it becomes critical infrastructure for AI agents accessing data, tools, and services.
