OpenAI's Codex for Open Source program offers ChatGPT Pro with Codex and API credits, with less rigid eligibility criteria. Both programs are strategically designed to embed their coding tools into the hands of influential maintainers whose libraries underpin much of the software industry. The programs are temporary (six months), raising questions about long-term retention once free access expires.
