Anthropic has acquired Stainless, a startup that auto-generates SDKs, CLI tools, and MCP servers from API specifications. Founded by a former Stripe engineer, Stainless has powered official Anthropic SDKs since the Claude API's early days and also counted OpenAI, Google DeepMind, Perplexity, and Cloudflare among its customers. Stainless will wind down its hosted products as the team shifts focus to Claude Platform capabilities. Analysts say the deal reflects a broader industry shift where AI vendors compete on developer infrastructure and agent connectivity, not just model performance. The acquisition also raises governance concerns around API sprawl and security controls from rapidly generated MCP servers.
