Announcing Vitess 22 — PlanetScale

Vitess 22.0.0 has been released with significant improvements to query serving and cluster management. Key enhancements include prepared statement caching, new VTGate metrics for observability, GA support for sharded views, and complete atomic distributed transactions. VTOrc now features stalled disk recovery, improved errant GTID detection, and better performance with fewer topology service calls. The Kubernetes operator v2.15.0 adds automated backups using VTBackup pods and supports Kubernetes 1.32. Performance improvements include ~3% QPS boost through gRPC Codec v2, ~5% faster normalization, and optimized single-shard query handling.
