The Django Software Foundation has announced the four selected contributors for Google Summer of Code 2026. From over 200 proposals, the accepted projects include: implementing an experimental API framework for Django core, adding table-valued expression support in the ORM (including Subquery and PostgreSQL functions like generate_series), adding dark mode and UI consistency to Django's issue tracker, and migrating Django's browser integration tests from Selenium to Playwright. The community bonding period has begun, with contributors working alongside mentors throughout the program.
