AWS has launched the AWS Sustainability console, a standalone service that consolidates carbon emissions reporting (Scope 1, 2, and 3) for AWS workloads. Previously, carbon footprint data was only accessible through the Billing console, requiring billing-level permissions. The new console has its own independent permissions model, allowing sustainability professionals to access emissions data without billing access. Key new features include configurable CSV reports, fiscal year alignment, breakdowns by AWS Region and service, and a new API/SDK for programmatic access to integrate emissions data into custom reporting pipelines and dashboards. Historical data is available from January 2022, and the service is available at no additional cost.
