Istio 1.30.0 has been released with several notable additions. Highlights include experimental support for agentgateway as a new AI/MCP-focused data plane proxy replacing Envoy on gateway pods, Gateway API improvements including TLSRoute termination and mixed mode, and multiple ambient mode enhancements such as CIDR address support in ServiceEntry, optional XFCC synthesis at waypoints, and configurable HBONE window sizing. Traffic management gains namespace-level traffic distribution annotations, a new TrafficExtension API unifying Wasm and Lua extensions, and multiple CUSTOM authorization providers per workload. Security improvements tighten XDS debug endpoint authentication, add a TLS minimum version flag for pilot-discovery, and change the default image registry to registry.istio.io. Helm v4 (server-side apply) is now supported, and telemetry now follows OpenTelemetry semantic conventions.
