Istio 1.29.0 brings production-ready ambient mesh improvements including default DNS capture and iptables reconciliation, enhanced security with CRL support in ztunnel and debug endpoint authorization, alpha support for wildcard hosts in TLS traffic, and promotes Gateway API Inference Extension to beta. Multi-network multicluster ambient reaches beta status with improved telemetry and peer metadata exchange. Performance improvements include HTTP compression for Envoy metrics and better memory management with automatic GOMEMLIMIT configuration.
