The Rust Project has announced 13 accepted proposals for Google Summer of Code 2026. This year saw a 50% increase in applications with 96 proposals submitted. Selected projects span a wide range of Rust ecosystem improvements including GPU offloading, WebAssembly linker support, autodiff CI integration, a Miri debugger, rust-analyzer refactoring, debug info improvements, XDG path support for rustup, and more. Three returning GSoC contributors are among the accepted participants. Some projects were cancelled due to mentors losing funding. The projects will run through autumn 2026, with a summary blog post to follow.
