Google introduces GKE extended support, allowing clusters to remain on a specific GKE minor version for up to 24 months. This includes a 14-month standard support period, followed by approximately 10 months of extended support with ongoing security patches. Extended support is accessible through the Extended release channel at an additional cost. Clusters must meet eligibility criteria to qualify for this feature, which can be managed via gcloud, API, and soon through the Google Cloud console.
