Google's Android has silently removed the ability to share geotagged photos with EXIF location metadata intact through web browsers. The standard HTML file input, the generic file picker, Bluetooth/QuickShare, and even email all now strip location data. The only remaining workaround is physically connecting via USB and uploading from a desktop browser. The author, who runs a memorial bench mapping site that relies on photo geolocation, criticizes Google for making this change without community consultation or advance notice. The stated reason is user privacy — preventing accidental location disclosure — but the lack of a permission prompt or opt-in mechanism leaves legitimate use cases with no web-based solution. A native Android app with the ACCESS_MEDIA_LOCATION permission appears to be the only viable path forward.
