Google is rolling out Android developer verification to all developers via Play Console and the new Android Developer Console. Developers can now complete verification and register their apps ahead of user-facing changes launching in Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand in September, with global expansion in 2027. Unregistered apps will require ADB or an advanced installation flow for most users. The rollout aims to reduce malware from sideloaded sources, which Google says is 90x more prevalent than on Google Play, while preserving openness for power users. Android Studio will also show app registration status when generating signed App Bundles or APKs.
