AMD has submitted Linux kernel patches providing initial support for their next-gen NPU platform, AIE4, via the AMDXDNA accelerator driver. The patches cover device initialization, basic mailbox communication, and SR-IOV enablement for PCI device IDs 0x17F2 and 0x1B0B. AIE4 is largely similar to the current AIE2 IP but adds SR-IOV support. AMD is continuing its practice of upstreaming Linux support ahead of hardware availability, as Ryzen AI NPUs gain traction for running LLMs and local AI agents on Linux.
