Linux 7.2 is set to remove support for TSC-less i586/i686 processors, including the AMD K5 and various Cyrix models. This follows Linux 7.1's removal of i486 support and AMD Elan SoC drivers. The change allows CONFIG_X86_TSC to become unconditional, simplifying the kernel by eliminating non-TSC code paths. TSC-capable processors like Intel Pentium remain supported.
