The AMD ISP4 driver, which enables webcam functionality on AMD Ryzen laptops like the HP ZBook Ultra G1a, is on track to be merged into the Linux 7.2 mainline kernel. After ten rounds of patch review, Linux media subsystem maintainer Sakari Ailus confirmed the driver is in his tree and he plans to submit a pull request for Linux 7.2. Until now, users relied on Ubuntu OEM kernels with out-of-tree patches. The driver is notable for not requiring closed-source user-space libraries, unlike Intel's recent IPU implementations. Mainline inclusion is expected to bring out-of-the-box webcam support by Ubuntu 26.10 and other H2 2026 Linux distributions.
