An RFC patch series has been posted to the Linux kernel mailing list introducing the AMD Dynamic Power and Thermal Configuration Interface (DPTCi) driver, aimed at improving power and thermal tuning for AMD Ryzen-based gaming handhelds (GPD, AYANEO, OneXPlayer, AOKZOE, OrangePi, etc.). The driver replaces out-of-tree solutions like acpi_call and ryzenadj with a proper in-kernel implementation exposing parameters via the firmware-attributes sysfs ABI, enforcing per-device safety limits, and supporting atomic commits with suspend/resume persistence. However, the patch review revealed the driver was partially written with AI assistance without disclosure, leading to issues like hallucinated tool names and code quality concerns. A rewrite is expected before it can progress beyond RFC status.
