Iranian drone strikes on Amazon Web Services data centers in the UAE and Bahrain two months ago have left AWS unable to support customer applications in those regions. AWS has suspended billing for affected customers in ME-CENTRAL-1 and ME-SOUTH-1, with full recovery expected to take several more months. The estimated cost of waived charges already stands at $150 million. AWS is urging customers to migrate to other cloud regions and restore from remote backups. Some customers, like Dubai-based Careem, successfully completed overnight migrations to resume operations.
