The service creates fully managed Apache Iceberg tables that automatically backfill existing object metadata and update within an hour of changes. Live inventory tables offer current snapshots of all objects and metadata, while journal tables track real-time changes like uploads and deletions. Both tables can be queried using SQL through Amazon Athena, eliminating the need for custom metadata management systems and enabling efficient analytics, compliance workflows, and ML pipeline optimization.
