Amazon OpenSearch Serverless now supports Derived Source, a feature that reduces storage consumption by reconstructing the _source field on the fly from already-indexed values instead of storing a separate copy of the original document. This is especially beneficial for time-series and log analytics collections with many indexed fields. The feature can be enabled at the index level when creating or updating index mappings and is available in all AWS regions where OpenSearch Serverless is supported.
