Amazon is discontinuing the Kindle for PC app on June 30, 2026, after which it will stop working entirely. A replacement app is in development but will only support Windows 11 and will be distributed exclusively through the Microsoft Store. The move mirrors Amazon's 2023 transition on Mac, where the old Kindle for Mac was replaced by an App Store-only version. The shift to native store apps is seen as part of Amazon's broader effort to combat e-book DRM stripping, as native store apps are harder to crack than traditional desktop installers.
