AM4 might still be supported when AM6 launches, but that doesn’t mean you should buy into the platform now

AMD's AM4 platform has had an impressive lifespan since 2016, but building a new system on it today is a poor investment. The upgrade ceiling is already set with the Ryzen 7 5800X3D and Ryzen 9 5950X as the top chips, and no new architectures are coming. DDR4's cost advantage over DDR5 has narrowed, and the long-term value proposition favors AM5, which has a confirmed multi-year roadmap with at least two more CPU generations planned before transitioning to AM6.
