Google Cloud launched AlphaEvolve in private preview, a Gemini-powered agentic system that automatically discovers and optimizes algorithms through evolutionary iteration. Users provide a problem specification, evaluation function, and seed program; Gemini models generate code variations that are evaluated and refined over successive cycles. The system uses multiple Gemini models with different roles—faster ones for exploration, more capable ones for reasoning. AlphaEvolve has achieved practical results including 0.7% recovery of global compute capacity in data centers, 23% reduction in Gemini training component execution time, and optimized arithmetic circuits for future TPU generations. The system is available through early access API on Google Cloud.
