AlloyDB for PostgreSQL now offers managed connection pooling in general availability, addressing database connection inefficiencies that bottleneck performance at scale. The feature maintains a cache of ready-to-use connections instead of creating new ones per request, eliminating costly setup overhead. It provides 3x more client capacity and up to 5x higher transactional throughput compared to standard connections. The managed solution integrates directly into AlloyDB, handling setup, configuration, and maintenance automatically. Two pooling modes are available: transaction mode (default) for maximum scalability with short transactions, and session mode for full PostgreSQL feature compatibility. Enabling requires simply activating the feature and connecting applications to port 6432 instead of the default 5432.
