Alibaba is integrating its Qwen AI app with Taobao and Tmall, giving the agent access to over 4 billion products and enabling end-to-end purchase flows including payment via Alipay. Unlike Western platforms like ChatGPT/Shopify or Amazon Rufus that produce search-style answers, Qwen handles the entire transaction — product discovery, price comparison, virtual try-ons, order placement, and post-sale interactions — with only a final user confirmation required. A live demo showed Qwen ordering bubble tea through Taobao Instant Commerce with loyalty discounts applied. The launch is part of Alibaba's $53 billion AI commitment and comes amid competitive pressure from PDD Holdings and Douyin. Qwen already has 300 million monthly active users across Alibaba's consumer surfaces. Regulatory risk and cross-border commerce gaps remain open questions.
