JetBrains has launched Air in public preview — an agentic development environment designed to orchestrate multiple AI coding agents concurrently. Unlike traditional IDEs, Air is built around the agent rather than the code editor, letting developers delegate tasks to agents like Codex, Claude Agent, Gemini, and Junie while maintaining full codebase context. It supports running agents locally or in isolated Docker containers and Git worktrees, and integrates tools like a terminal, Git client, and built-in preview. Air is free for macOS (Windows and Linux coming soon) and available to JetBrains AI subscribers or users with their own API keys. Team collaboration features are planned for future releases.
