The reductions affect AWS, retail, Prime Video, and HR departments as the company restructures after pandemic-era over-hiring and increases AI tool adoption. CEO Andy Jassy previously indicated that improved AI assistants would automate duties and lead to job losses. Amazon is also investing in warehouse robotics to reduce reliance on human labor, though the cuts represent nearly 10% of corporate workforce while most of Amazon's 1.58 million employees work in fulfillment centers.
