How many times do I have to hear this same regurgitated LinkedIn take over and over again? Anyone who’s used AI tools knows that this hallucinogenic narrative isn’t even close to lived reality

We’re like 34 months into “Ai will take your job in 6 months”.

It’s rather unfortunate that not more is cited within the zeitgeist of the AI boom as to how it pertains to work evolution - specifically about previous cyclical evolutionary periods in “technological advances.”
tl;dr - hand weaver::mill operative; scribe::printer; switchboard operator::automated exchange - with every role collapse from technological evolution comes opportunity for new ones, new challenges, new education, further evolution. And so the cycle goes.

Great mind shifting is happening for us, specialists in some narrow fields. Like for me it makes less sense to identify myself as a backend developer, rather than a saas maker, or products builder.

As someone trying to figure out where the solid ground is, beneath the ever-shifting mire of AI discourse, it’s incredibly frustrating. You can find passionate arguments that AI is the future, it’s on its deathbed, and that AI is not going change everything, but it is here to stay. Use AI? Well, you’re atrophying your brain and not really learning anything. Don’t use AI? You’re falling behind and missing out on massive productivity gains. Somewhere in the middle? You’re getting the worst of both worlds.
I understand that in uncertain times there are no clear, easy answers, and the only way to move forward is to make your own mind up and learn from the experience as it happens. But man, so many divergent realities existing at once with their own ecosystems of discourse is exhausting.
