AI is coming to your accounting software

Sage has launched Sage AI in South Africa, embedding AI into its finance, payroll and HR products targeting small businesses in Africa and the Middle East. The platform uses around 40,000 domain-specific AI models and claims to have saved customers 50 million hours globally. A key design principle is human-in-the-loop control: AI agents can flag anomalies and recommend actions but cannot execute them without human approval. All actions are auditable. Sage also introduced an AI Trust Label disclosing what each feature does, what data it uses, and which compliance standards apply. The company positions trust and accuracy as differentiators in a crowded market where Microsoft, Xero, and QuickBooks are making similar AI bets.
