AI can write your infrastructure code. There’s a reason most teams won’t let it.

Spacelift co-founder Marcin Wyszynski discusses the risks and opportunities of AI-generated infrastructure code. While AI tools have eliminated the need to hand-write HCL, the comprehension gap they create is dangerous — a bad infrastructure change can destroy a production database, unlike a bad app deploy. Wyszynski introduces Spacelift's Intent product, which lets LLMs query cloud provider schemas and provision resources in near real-time, with deterministic guardrails via Open Policy Agent policies rather than relying on other LLM calls. He argues the real challenge for platform teams is balancing speed and control, and that LLMs need guardrails just as humans do — nothing conceptually new there.
