Researchers at MIT have developed the Portable Somatic Wearable, a system that combines AI-guided voice reflection with real-time gaze-derived somatic markers. Unlike typical linguistic AI reflection tools, it captures nonverbal cues such as hesitation, fixation dynamics, and temporal pacing to adapt conversational pacing and prompts. The hardware uses a compact headphone-integrated sensing module for rapid, repeatable deployment. The system contributes a portable gaze-based somatic capture platform and an integrated somatic-reactive AI pipeline aimed at more accessible and socially attuned AI-mediated reflection.
