Aging programmer

You could be describing me right there. ALthough I am fifty-five now, which I guess would make me an aged programmer. When I was in my twenties, I was promoted to Project Manager and I hated every minute of it.
I also have zero interest in telling others what to do - or worse - checking that they did it and doing a code review with them. By nature I’m the opposite of confrontational.
I realised early on that instead of following the “management track,” I’d much rather become a specialist programmer. I won’t say that I’m that every day - because with all the new frameworks and engines and versions of c# and .NET hitting us constantly, there is always more to learn. 
Colleagues think I’m crazy when they want to know what I do for fun and I tell them I code for fun. I love wrestling with the new concepts and required paradigm shifts and I’m very grateful that I am a software developer.
There are very few things that I’d do that constantly unless it literally showered my brain with dopamine.

I’m nearly at your stage right now.
I dislike switching contexts and I’m really skeptical about the new hot stuff. My aims are radically changed since my career start: I enjoyed trying new stuff and putting it on the code, no matter if the result was really impactful, now I’m reluctant to put some library “x” because “complexity may introduce”, I write simpler than before with fewer libraries.
Aging in this way is not so bad, it’s a way to preserve our mental sanity not overcomplicating all things
