Amazon's ecommerce division is responding to a series of outages, some linked to AI-assisted code changes, by requiring senior engineers to sign off on such changes. A company-wide meeting was called by SVP Dave Treadwell to review contributing factors, which include 'novel GenAI usage for which best practices and safeguards are not yet fully established.' One recent incident took Amazon's website and app down for nearly six hours due to an erroneous software deployment.
